Chanel fabric
Bouclé is often mentioned together with Coco Chanel, who used the elegant fabric for her world-famous skirt suits. The 'Chanel jacket' in bouclé or tweed has become a classic. The word bouclé comes from French and means 'loop'. The name refers to the uneven yarns with a lot of loops from which bouclé fabrics are woven (or sometimes knitted). These 'effect yarns' give the fabric its charming irregular structure with nubs, loops or curls. Bouclé fabrics are soft, airy and elastic. They consist of different types of yarn, such as wool or cotton, sometimes including gold or silver thread and sequins. On the catwalk, bouclé couture creations are often real showstoppers – a statement of luxury tailoring.
