Rumors about his roots
Few knitted sweaters enjoy as much fame as the Aran sweater. The chunky knitted cable sweater, traditionally made from uncoloured sheep wool, was recently rediscovered by designers such as JW Anderson and Christopher Kane. The pattern consists of vertical cables with four to six different patterns, always symmetrical and the same at the front and back. Sometimes it is also applied on the sleeves. The popularity is partly due to the story that it would be an authentic fishermen's sweater from the Irish Aran Islands. Historians, however, believe that this is part of a set of myths by author Heinz Edgar Kiewe to give the islanders new sources of income at the beginning of the last century. Myth or not, it remains a wonderful and delicious warm sweater for the cold winter months.
