Wrinkled surface
Crepe is not only a French pancake, but also a delicate and refined fabric with a slightly wrinkled surface. Actually it is a collective name for all kinds of fabrics that cause an irregular, grainy appearance due to the binding, used the yarn or the finish. The term is derived from the Latin word cripus, which means wave. In old French this became cresp, then crêpe. Originally the fabric was mainly used for mourning clothes, in the Netherlands under the name krip. There are different types of crepe including crepe de chine, broken crepe and crepe georgette. Crepe has a beautifully smooth and supple handle. However, a point of attention is that you have to be careful with washing because the fabric can shrink or warp.
