Bird's eye pattern

Patterns and motifs

Caviar ball
The name birds-eye, or also caviar pattern, is used for a woolen fabric with a small woven or knitted geometrical motif. These small, diamond-shaped figures are reminiscent of a bird’s eye or caviar ball, hence the name. In the Netherlands we also speak of bird eye or peacock-eye motif. The fabric was originally popular in England, but also the Italians have embraced the motif and call it affectionately occhio di pernice, or eye of the partridge. The bird’s eye motif gives a subtle texture to the fabric and is mainly used for dressed shirts and more expensive men’s suits.
