Christmas stocking

Legwear

American tradition
In the United States it is customary for every family member to hang a red and white Christmas stocking on the fireplace at Christmas. This tradition is comparable to the habit of placing a shoe by the chimney during Sinterklaas in the Netherlands and probably also derives from this. Santa fills the sock with presents. Classics are the well-known striped candy canes, nuts, pencils and a mandarin that is traditionally put in the tip of the sock. Brands respond smartly to this use and advertise with special stocking fillers: from beauty products to special Lego editions. Even Tiffany's 'Christmas stocking presents' these days.
