The envelope bag, also called pochette, has no shoulder strap and is always clamped under the arm or carried in the hand. She is therefore rather designed to embellish a festive outfit than for practical use. In the early twentieth century she made her debut in the international fashion magazines. Together with the handbag she is the most popular bag style. However, around the Second World War she had to make way for the functional shoulder bag. Nowadays her small and flat format is ideal again. Because hey, what does a girl need more than her iPhone and a lip gloss during a night out?
